Serving the community by helping save lives

Grampian Training Services Ltd is a community-based business.

Founder Tom Malcolm launched the company in 1996 after discovering that first-aid was not taught in any of North-east Scotland’s primary schools.

Tom saw this as a serious issue for a largely rural region with low population centres and many people some distance from an ambulance and other emergency response services.

But it grew to the point where he needed to bring other first-aid trainers on board and in 2009 Tom began working full-time in the business.

Grampian Training Services now works with around 90 primary schools and serves the whole region. This reaches from Arbroath and Fettercairn in the south to Rosehearty and Sandhaven in the north-east, west from Aberdeen to Braemar, and north to Elgin. We visit each school for between two and six days per years, depending on its size.

To make this happen, the company needs the support of corporate sponsors to help fund their local schools as there is no central or local government budget for classroom first-aid training.

The company’s long-term mission is to see that every child in the North-east receives first-aid training before going to secondary school.
