Grampian Training Services currently provides First Aid training to 80 of the 205 Primary Schools across Aberdeen City and Shire. His goal is to deliver this progressive annual training programme to all Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils throughout the North East and is appealing to the Business Community to help make this happen.

Grampian Training Services has been delivering First Aid training programmes to industry since 1996. Tom soon identified the value for children to also be equipped with the knowledge of how to save a life. Hence, he initiated the ‘Young Emergency Aider Award Scheme’, which up until now has been funded through schools, mainly from their Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and Parent Council (PC) budgets. First Aid training helps Schools meet the requirements of the Health and Wellbeing aspect of the Curriculum for Excellence.

“There are many instances already of where pupils we have trained have made a difference by putting their training into action. Several have helped family and friends when they have been choking, stung, take an asthma attack, faint or been burned”, reports Tom, “We also have a few instances where pupils have saved lives. We have had feedback where a pupil saved her brother’s life when the family was involved in a car accident and the pupil stopped a major bleed. These are only a few of many examples of where the First Aid training these pupils received have come into action.”

Schools do not have funding to provide First Aid training to pupils. PTA and PC budgets are becoming increasingly restricted and spending prioritised. With the success of the ‘Young Emergency Aider Award Scheme’, many Schools would like to provide their pupils with this training, but do not have the funds to do so. Therefore, Tom is appealing to the Business Community in the hope that by sponsoring a School or simply supporting the program it can be ensured all children will be provided with this training.

£1000 would provide training for 120 children. The Sponsorship Appeal is hoping to secure Companies donating £800-£1000 per year. This could be in 1 donation or paid over the year.

In return for a donation, the Company would
• Directly allow over 120 pupils to receive First Aid training
• Feature on the quarterly school newsletter
• 800 branded certificates to the children
• Mentions in future media releases
• Branding on the Grampian Training Services website
• Mentions on social media via Grampian Training Services and C Growth
• Mentions in the Parent Council newsletters
• Contribution towards company Corporate Social Responsibility
• Business name on e-mails to each pupil and family through School e-mail informing parents and pupils of the training with those supporting the training
• Business name on e-mails to families from PTA/PC informing them that local businesses are funding the training
